Northern Greenland's First Sunrise of the Year
ByIn Return of the Sun, an Inuit community in Greenland celebrates after weeks of winter darkness, even as they face drastic effects of climate change on their ecosystem. A fisherman describes how he fishes via dog sled less and less, as the ice melts away at a rate of 15 meters per year, forcing him to fish by boat.
Glen Milner and Ben Hilton spent about a week in Ilulissat, a community of 4,00 people, to shoot this short documentary for Nowness, a lifestyle and culture site. Working with only a few hours of sunlight a day, they managed to capture the beautiful dawn light and icy landscapes of the remote region beautifully. They describe the experience in this post on Nowness.
